Sophia Goddess of Creation

This piece came from Sophia Portico not for sale Sophia Goddess of Creation

This painting was inspired by a nighttime dream that I had about meeting the Spirit of Sophia. I dreamed I traveled to her through outer space. When I saw her for the first time she was miles and miles high and radiant with light. She gave me only one command and that was to Paint Her.

When I woke from the dream I had no couscous knowledge of what this being was that I had experienced in my dream. I had to do extensive reading about her to learn her story. As I began to learn about her story I discovered her ancient name was Sophia. As I painted her in this painting you see before you I began to also feel her. I began to come to understand what she meant for me and other women.

The name Sophia literally means the spirit of Wisdom. Scholars called her the companion of God at the beginning of creation, as it is written in Proverbs in the Bible. The Jewish culture calls her Holkama, also meaning wisdom. She is the Goddess of Creation, depicted in ancient times through a thousand different cultures and stories. She is said to have created the worlds of above and below.

She is known as the Great Mother, bringer of life, culture, and civilization. She is Mother Nature, responsible for all the abundance in the world. She is Governess of the animals, plants, minerals and earth. Guardian of the universe, space, and time are her essential powers of being.

She holds mysteries from the world of spirit, and she can be heard and felt by anyone that takes the time to listen and feel her presence. Her attributes are intuition, creativity and vision. There is no place in which She is not present. No world exists that is not inspired by Her. Her breath is life, Her smile is light, and Her thought is invention. She is healing and rejuvenation. She is fluid like water and strong like water. She has a thousand names. She is the Wisdom of All.

My greatest discovery in researching my dream is that She is found not only in the world all around us but inside of us all waiting to be brought into our life, felt in our heart and in our very Soul. This painting is a reminder we are all born from the Spirit of Wisdom and She lives within us all.
